Conceptual sculptures, artistic researches and artprojects made in collaborations.
By Polina Zolotukhina
Interdisciplinary experiments with aim to manifest material’s inner structure and explore the medium as a language of personal experiences.
Sculpture MUCOSA 2024
A porcelain "shell" frozen in motion, covered with glass "mucus", inside which tangled dark wire is visible. The project is about concealing inner experiences: a cozy, homely, clean, yet simultaneously sticky and engulfing shell, within which emotions move in a chaotic tangle. The project explores the conflicting desires for safety and open emotional expression.
Sculpture ALTAR 2024
This project explores pain, grief, and the fading of emotions. The abstract form represents the silhouette of a person holding their head in their hands. Along their back — the exposed and vulnerable part of the body — metal spikes symbolize sharp pain. Candles are placed on these spikes, and as they burn, wax drips down the "back" of the sculpture.
Textile Installation CONNECTED 2024
Presented at the art space "Klubok". The project explores the intricate intertwining of events that stretch in different directions, like threads, ultimately forming a cohesive picture. The dynamic materials, which evoke a sense of impermanence, are integrated into the space as a canopy, offering us shelter.
Sculpture HARP 2023
Soft antropomorph form is knoting over itself by wire. The image refers to string musical instrument, lost ability to play. At the same time, its strings' expressive form give us feeling of unordered living structure, with its own music.
Series of works FROZEN 2023
In collaboration with Vlad Generalov An attempt to contain the vibrations, to touch them and let the frozen form manifest itself in sound. The objects are a wall composition and a sculpture with an electro-acoustic system inside.
Wall Sculpture №1 From the series of works VULNERABILITY 2023
The project is about the point of contact of strength and weakness within us - it invites us to look at our own vulnerability as part of an indivisible system. By juxtaposing the fluid, living form of porcelain and the flexible yet rough wire, the materials' vulnerabilities are exposed, and integrity is held in check through their interaction.
Wall Sculpture №2 From the series of works VULNERABILITY 2023
Porcelain shapes, like complex living organisms, become a chain of communication for the rigid metal rods, their way to achieve a single form. For every detail, this unity is a new way of moving, gaining dynamism. Tears at the joints are part of a painful path in which it is so difficult not to lose yourself.
Wall Sculpture №3 From the series of works VULNERABILITY 2023
The wire embraces and subjugates porcelain figures, binding them into a unified chain. The wire itself has no inherent form: it acquires shape only by revealing the resistance within the porcelain. Each material demonstrates its strength through this struggle, and it is precisely within this confrontation that we truly come to understand each side.
Wall Sculpture №4 From the series of works VULNERABILITY 2023
Porcelain, constrained by a metal mesh, allows it to sink into itself, adopting the mesh's form. This object demonstrates that struggle is not the only way to coexist with an opposing force.
Wall Sculpture №5 From the series of works VULNERABILITY 2023
The chaotic movement of porcelain ribbons contrasts with the flat, textured surface of the metal. The forces remain unbalanced; they have yet to interact, each manifesting its pure form — but one more step, and each force will collapse into self-destruction.
Wall Sculpture №6 From the series of works VULNERABILITY 2023
Porcelain, having taken on the calmness of a metal sheet, loses its integrity, while metal, on the contrary, directs all its forces to maintaining a single structure. Each of the materials loses something, but a point has been found where the weakness is balanced by resistance.
Sculpture FUME 2023
The name FUME and the two meanings of this word refer to the two figurative components of the sculpture: smoke and a fit of anger. The first semantic part is read in silhouette: a voluminous, living cloud descends from a thin porcelain pillar to the ground. In this form, one can see the opposition of the slender geometry of the pillar figure and the rough texture of the “smoke” - it has signs of physicality, unbridledness, its expression comes to the fore. The lamp that illuminates the pillar from the inside shows us the other side of this image and the other way: inside a clear vertical, barely restrained emotions boil. With the help of visual contrasts, two ways to experience a vivid emotion are revealed, and a person is free to find his own harmonious way to express it.
Sculpture INSIDE: HEALING 2021-2022
The idea of my project is the image of a split human consciousness. Life is preserved in it, experience is preserved in it, and this preservation is based on a constant effort towards self-healing. Full of pure desire to maintain integrity, but also of animal self-destruction, this object suggests that deep brokenness is the nature of our reality, in which everyone is drawn to himself.
